change …

statue praying

You must be the change you want to see in the world.
~ Mahatma Gandhi

When I become a more peaceful person,
I add more peace to the world.

When I become a more understanding person,
I add more understanding to the world.

When I become a more loving person,
I add more love to the world.

I cannot change the entire world,
but I can change the space that I occupy in it
by changing my self.

The world is more peaceful,
more understanding,
more loving
when I create more peace, understanding and love in me.

Namaste

Reminds me of the prayer of St. Francis.

Rose,

I just wanted to write to tell you how much I enjoyed two of your recent posts, "I love summer!", and "Mom's empty calendar". I haven't visited your blog in many months because my family purchased an iPad and I began using that for my web brousing, which meant that I unfortunately stopped visiting the many sites I had bookmarked on my laptop. Anyway, I needed to use the laptop to email some photos today, and so took the time to visit a few of the old sites. I am so glad I did. Your posts really touch my soul. I feel the same way about summer! Though I live in Michigan, and the temps can get unbelievably hot sometimes, I still prefer it to the other seasons, because I love being able to run outside barefoot and do all the other things you mentioned. I hope you are doing okay as fall has really set in now, and that you are finding the ability to enjoy the some of things so many others love about this season: wearing cozy sweaters, sipping warm drinks, and seeing the colorful landscape. And then I read your piece about finding your mother's calendar. Wow. How you must have felt when you made that connection. And to know that she was so spare with what she chose to keep, and that calendar with its simple "No" and "Yes" was among them. Bless her soul. And bless you, too, for sharing. Thank you so much.

I love that quote, and your post is such a good reminder.

Debra - I've always loved the attitude of St. Francis. My parish is Franciscan, too.
MichaganHome - You are sooo nice! Thank you for your sweet comments and for understanding my summer sentiments. Yes, when I found Mom's calendar, it was like my heart stopped and Mom was with me telling me what it meant. So special.
Jennie - Thanks! And thanks for your first visit!

Yes, oh yes! And part of me being more peaceful and understanding is to keep my mouth shut and listen. If I'm at odds w/ someone, I don't need to enter in the "dance" w/ them and defend or argue. I can listen and hear.
