summer dancing ...

Oh, Hi! So good to see you! ... hug ... You remember so-and-so? ....Say Hi, girls. ... Hi! ... You hungry? Sit down ... How've you been? ...

Summer parties ... summer gatherings ...
seeing friends ...
enjoying summer evenings outdoors.

Summer parties, back-to-back ... strung one after another- like summer flowers in a daisy chain - stretching through the months of summer ...

I'd love to see you ... is this weekend good?
Hey, save the 16th, OK?
Evite invitations where you can see who else is going to be there to add to the fun!
Do you want to carpool together?

A summer patio filled with laughter ... friends doubled over ... one tossing his head back in delight. The candles lit on the cake ... Happy birthday to you ...

A pool party with kids splashing, sharing goggles, the boys playing "chicken" ... hey! Not so rough! Someone's gonna get hurt! ... My granddaughters, shy at first, but the older boys grab and toss them in the water and soon they're all laughing and having a grand time.

Adults and kids sharing summer together, generations spanning from grandparents to newborns. Meeting new people and enjoying the conversation, the discussion, the quick quips, the subtle excitement that comes with meeting strangers in happy circumstances. Meeting folks again that you met at the last party with this crowd. Oh, you do yoga with her, too? Yeah, she got me to learn to love plank, too.

Friends and friends, old and just-met ... friends at parties, friends on phone calls that seem to be more frequent in the summer. "Yes! How are you? Hey, why don't you come over this Saturday?" and plans are made for another summer gathering ... and I quickly get to cleaning my summertime mess that seems to appear when the days are filled with light and irresponsibility calls me outside to play instead of doing chores.

Summer breezes, light foods, juicy melon ... laughter and sharing and catching up with people who make us smile.

Summer people, light and laughter ... a celebration ... a dance, a delight.

Beautiful, Rose! I was just at a three-year-old's birthday party yesterday. It was so cute, and so summer-esque, with picnic tables and fresh flowers, and new people and cold beer and soda, and laughing children playing in pink and purple sand. It was a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.

I'm having a 100h post giveaway this week! Don't miss it!

This has been a strange Summer for me. My days were full of the chaos of taking care of two little ones and my evenings were spent alternately worrying about my husband, praying for the innocent victims of war, and being intensely lonely. By next Summer, my old life will resume, but I'm not sure I will be the same person. I'll certainly appreciate my life more, but I've become a lot less tolerant (of injustice, especially) and a lot more outspoken. A Summer of change, for sure.

What a nice post, Rose. I am frankly ready for the quiet nesting of fall, although of course it'll be hot here until November!

I have one more large social obligation this weekend (wine crush in California) and then I can relax more around home.

Popped back in here to check out your blog list and I had to tell you that I like this "Peace" song that is playing. Frankly, I'm not fond of music on blogs (just my personal preference) as they seem to jar my senses when the songs start. But not "Peace". Thanks for having it come up first!

Rose...that was lovely! I havent had to much play time this summer. lol! Vacation is a week away. I intend to play as hard as Ive been working. Rollercoasters, horseback rides, rafting, walking along the beach in my bare feet, finding a chair to curl up with a good book and laughing a lot!

Rose this was a great post! My summer went by much too fast. But the many backyard BBQs & impromptu runs for ice cream were so great! Your insight on the casualness of summer are so true, don't want to cook or clean, just play after work.
Thanx for all the great comments on my blogs, new friends are another fun part of summer.

Sharon - It sounds like a great summer party! Colored sand - how cool! Congrats on the 100th post!

PG - Happy 82nd to your mom! Glad you like "Peace"; I do, too.

Karin - It sounds like a summer of growth. I wish you and yours peace.

Amber - You have had such a busy and fun summer! I understand the need to nest and rest.

Kat - I hope you are hugely self-indulgent on your vacation. Bare those feet, linger over everything and smile from your heart out.

Brenda Susan - impromptu ice creams runs! I knew I'd missed something this summer. Must make up for it this week! Thanks!

I love your writing Rose. Could read it all day. Love to read it on Sundays. Summer is closing, but it has been a good one. Guilty of not being out and enjoying it more. Always say "next year" my garden will thrive. Fortunately, I like each season. Keep blogging!
